Title. Can I see it through your eyes? — towards multi-organ image analysis and predictive modelling

Abstract. In this talk, I will discuss the work in progress undertaken in CISTIB (www.cistib.org) at the University of Leeds, in collaboration with partners across China, UK, and the USA, to develop methods for population imaging multi-organ phenotyping. We are interested in understanding disease manifestations across organ systems, developing population image analytics pipelines to extract information reliable and accurately at scale, integrating multi-cue information, and developing low-cost disease diagnostic and screening systems. Our primary interest is cardiovascular disease, including diabetes, myocardial infarction, and cerebrovascular disease. Understanding eye-related phenotypes from retinal imaging could complement existing cardiovascular imaging and offer a simple mechanism for a second referral to a cardiology clinic. We will overview the rationale behind our research, current progress in analysing the UK Biobank population imaging study, and highlight research avenues for image analysis that emerge from this exciting grand challenge. We hope this talk will stimulate cross-fertilisation between cardiovascular and ophthalmology imaging researchers.
